Pretty good lamp

The things I really liked about this lamp are the ability to use different batteries (because my intended use is for emergencies) and the variable light output. The only downside is that at its highest output, it didn't brightly light the room. I love the night light feature because my nephew still needs a night light when there is no power...I'm buying my sister one for their emergency kit!
I've had absolutely no difficulty with use.

Where and how do the AA batteries work? I am only able to access the where the D size batteries go.

There is a removable insert that you can use for the AA batteries. I wonder if yours is missing.
